A Few Memories of 2018
Here’s a few of my academic memories from 2018.
January 2018
ENUSEC have had a great year. They started it with a trip to the Middle East:

February 2018

And an invite to present at the University of Edinburgh on Blockchain:
And throughout the year, we have been inspired by Chal from the DHI:
And our SOCLAB progressed from a building site to some interesting presentations:
And Spirtus have also been our guiding light:
And it was off to the Health and Social Care conference:
Which was supported by the ever present Check Point:
At which Spiritus was one of the highlights in their innovation:
And then Cyber Risks conference at Gogarburn:
And at the Scottish Knowledge Exchange awards, the collaboration with CM2000 and DHI was highlighted:
And I was lucky enough to gain an award:
Our work with Trisent has also progressed through the year:
And just before the Beast from the East:
And our great students:
And one of the stars of the year was Zonefox (meeting with a Scottish Minister):

March 2018
And, as it was March, it was time TourDuHack 2018:

April 2018
For April, I had the chance to show my city with Richard Demar
And Jamie Graves popped-up again with an award:
And we were off to the Scottish Government to raise awareness on Cyber Security:
Adrian Smales and Liam Bell have pushed forward our work in integrating state-of-the-art digital methods — along with the DHI — into our simulated hospital at Sighthill. Here is the home environment:
And, with our amazing collaboration with Satisnet, SOCLAB that was launched in April:

And that inspirational person popped up again at EiE18:
May 2018
I was down to CRESTCon/IISP Congress in May:
and then onto Smart Cities 2018:
And out students were showcasing their excellence:
And a nice paper:
And throughout our work — led from our side by Adrian Smales — continued with ARMED:
And we signed a collaborative agreement with Blockpass to create a world’s first Identity Research Lab — the Blockpass Identity Lab:
And it was off to Glasgow for a bit of cyber security:
And off to Glasgow again for the Socitm conference:
And bumped into one of Manchester’s finest:
And our great students told their story:
June 2018
We continued to engage with industry around Cyber awareness. Here is one with a leading financial institution in Edinburgh:
And off to London with Blockpass:
And we have been so lucky to work with such talented people as Adam Vaziri and Hans Lombardo:
And Joanna Cherry QC MP was regular visitor, and here she was asking advice on issues related to Cybersecurity:
And Solomon gained his PhD (here he is with his examiners):
And then it was the Conference on Big Data and the Cyber Revolution:
June 2018
And then for Holyrood Connect:
And, as an academic, I strongly believe in collaboration:
It was IoT security in June in beautiful surroundings:
And a government hosted event for citizen engagement (and a catch-up with another Crypto professor):
And, all the time, ENUSEC continued to develop:
Our collaborations continue:
And SOCLAB got into running mode:
And I gave a keynote at the SICSA PhD conference in Aberdeen:
July 2018
And July 2018 saw us sawing goodbye to our graduates:
And I received my OBE in my most favouriate city in the world:
August 2018
It was off to Zug — the capital of Crypto, and a nice reward:
And we did many events with the Law Society of Scotland:
And Jamie was there again showcasing the best of Cybersecurity:
And a nice paper:
And Satisnet, too, were winning awards:
And I was lucky to be part of the UK Government list of 40 Influencers in the UK:
And we started the recruitment for our PhD studentships for the Blockpass ID Lab. Here is Adam and Liam:
and the collaborations started:
Along with some Bluetooth hacking:
And so privacy preserving work:
And, with Antoni and Connor, we published a book on GDPR:
And we continued to develop with digital health infrastructure:
And into side channels:
September 2018
I finally gained a Principal Fellowship of HEA:
and it was off to the Whiskey Society to present some Crypto:
And I go my ID stolen by crypto bots:
And, in collaboration with Satisnet, we started some new SOC apprentices:
And off to talk some Cybersecurity with UK defence leads:
And I have got to post my fav pic of the year:
And then off to Jersey:
And even had a panel with one of your graduates:
And then the Blockpass ID Lab launch:
And a Hackathon:
And at Scotland IS:
And Dr Owen Lo cracking light-weight crypto:
And, our students, again, doing wonderful things:
October 2018
Off to InfoSec 2018 in Dublin:
And it was Dr Owen Lo again for a presentation at CENSIS 2018:
And, Zonefox was acquired by Fortinet:
And a talk at Law Society of Scotland conference:
November 2018
And it was our PhD graduations:
But we lost Prof David Benyon:
Our 3rd spin-out — Cyan Forensics gained new funding:
And a nice new paper:
And we hosted a Health and Social Care conference:
And our undergraduate programme gained NCSC approval (the first in the UK to get full approval):
With Adam, we have a new book in progress:
And there’s lots of student-focused Blockchain activities:
Well, sometimes you just stand back and appreciate how great our students are … and here is one of our award winners:
November 2018
It was Cyber awards times with Cyan Forensics winning best startup:

December 2018
ENUSEC just continued with its excellence …
And I was off to Glasgow:
And Liam Bell was down in the House of Commons for some Blockchain discussions:
And our Dean gave an amazing talk for her Professorial lecture:

We lost a rebel:
And I am one of the ones to watch in 2019:
And it was Christmas lecture time — and back in the place where it all started:
