As Some Politicians May Want To Tear Us Apart, Science and Technology Must Strive To Rebuild

As an academic, I believe in collaboration.

I believe that we should build bridges and not walls.

I believe in nations of the world coming together and share knowledge.

I feel so sad that we are taking risks with the rights and freedoms of our future generations. This generation thus has to do everything that it can to heal the divisive nature of our current political situation. Science and technology can thus bind us within common challenges, and in a way that our politicians often fail to do. We need to build better societies, and in ways which avoid political barriers or physical borders.

I believe that no society should have the rights to take away the rights and freedoms of a future generation. We must do everything we can to create a stable economic environment for them, and minimise the risks we take. In the UK, we are increasingly hovering a finger over the button which will take us into un-chartered and risky waters, and I am so sad that we have even got to this place. As researchers, we must do everything possibly in sustaining our links across Europe, and attract those who want to live here.

I repeat again, we need to re-build our societies, and in ways which avoid political barriers or physical borders. We need a decentralised world, and we need a more trusted world in which politicians cannot take basic rights away from individuals.

Here is a paper I wrote with Nassem Naqvi, and how the UK can play a core role within the EU on blockchain:

Stand up for a fairer world, and where trust is actually built from the ground up. Our politicians might want to take us back to times of the past, and where we had glorious histories as countries, but these times are past. The whole concept of physical borders must melt away, as we need to provide core rights for everyone, especially for our next generation.
